Classes Descriptions

MASTERS OF HOLISTIC HEALTH DEGREE

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE

These Holistic Health Care classes are a broad overview of Natural Medicines and therapies.

This program is designed to prepare the student in the following skills:

Analysis:

  • Traditional Chinese Observations
  • Iridology
  • Japanese Hara Study

Natural Treatment:

  • Herbal Medicine
  • Food as Medicine
  • Homeopathy
  • Supplements
  • Essential oils

The program also includes the study of ailments, which helps the student understand symptoms and how to use holistic methods of treatment.  The student must complete seven levels. Each level is an independent module; therefore, the student may take them out of sequence except for Level VII (clinical).

Level 1: Anatomy and Physiology, and Medical Terminology (Holistic Nutrition Level 1).
This level familiarizes the student with each system of the human physiology and introduces the world of medical terminology. This level will help the student understand the client’s description of symptoms and understand physician’s diagnosis.

Level 2: Aromatherapy and Herbal Medicine
The student will learn how to use essential oils and herbal remedies safely.
Ailments of the Digestive system, Circulatory system and Respiratory system will be discussed.

Level 3: Energy Medicine and Homeopathy
The student will learn how to use the electromagnetic power of the body, and how to use Homeopathic remedies for acute and chronic ailments. Ailments of the Nervous system, Reproductive system and Urinary system will be discussed.

Level 4: Iridology and Japanese Hara Analysis
The student will learn the analysis of the iris and how it relates to the human anatomy. The Hara Analysis is a tool used to determine the present status of each energy center. Ailments related to the Immune system will be discussed.

Level 5: Traditional Chinese Medicine
The student will learn the philosophy and principles of TCM and will also learn the 12 major Meridians and their symptoms when out of balance.

Level 6: TCM Observations – Tongue & Pulse Analysis
The student will learn how to interpret the appearance of the tongue in relation to various organs and how to feel for the pulse to determine the status of the client’s health.

Level 7: Treatment of Ailments – Clinical Rotation - 10 cases
The student will interview the client, perform observations, test remedies and make recommendations.

  • Symptom documentation and natural remedy selection.
  • Evaluation of the meridian and energy systems.
  • Iris, tongue, pulse, hara (abdominal energy), muscle trigger point and pH evaluations.
  • Identification of treatment modality.
  • Performance of ten naturopathic exams and reports.
  • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

HOMEOPATHY

Level I: Homeopathic Principles and Philosophy
The student will learn the history, theories and principles of homeopathy as discussed by Samuel Hahnemann in his book “Organon of the Medical Art.”

Level II: Taking a Case
Interviewing the client is the most important aspect of helping the client and determining the best remedies to recommend. The student will learn how to ask for descriptions of symptoms. Learn how all senses can be useful in determining the remedy.

Homeopathy III (Clinical Workshop):
Each participant will receive a comprehensive review of homeopathic products usually recommended by Naturopaths.  Pros and cons of product inventory, web purchases, vitamin stores, etc.

HERBOLOGY

Herbal Medicine Level 1:
System Affinity/Terminology: Study of history and philosophy of Western Herbal medicine, medical, herbal and botanical terminology. System affinity of herbs.

Herbal Medicine Level 2:
Detoxification: In-depth study of detoxification to rid the body of pollutants, Candida albicans and parasites. System affinity of herbs continued.

Herbology III (Clinical Workshop):
Each participant will receive a comprehensive review of herbal products usually recommended by Naturopaths.  Pros and cons of product inventory, web purchases, vitamin stores, etc.

Masters Exam #5: Herbal Medicine

 

ACUPRESSURE

 Acupressure/Shiatsu - Level 1
Learn the 12 major meridians, theory and palpation techniques.   Learn how to use the hara analysis to determine imbalances of energy. This class includes hours of practicum.
        
Acupressure/Shiatsu - Level 2
This two day class includes 5 contact hours and 14 unsupervised hours. 
Learn how to use aromatherapy for specific ailments and more palpation techniques.   Includes 5 hours of practicum.

Acupressure/Shiatsu – Level 3
This two day class will discuss the use of AFT (Attractor Field Technique), also called tapping. This technique is useful for alleviating physical and emotional disharmony.

Acupressure/Shiatsu – Level 4
This class is designed for the practitioner to complete the clinical

HOLISTIC NUTRITION

 

Holistic Nutrition 1:
-  See Anatomy and Physiology in the Holistic Health care section

Foods for Health (Holistic Nutrition 2):
-  How the components of foods compliment the use of other natural health care modalities. 
-  Benefits to food when assisting the client in promoting optimum health.
-  Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

Supplements for Health (Holistic Nutrition 3):
-  Nutritional information that compliments the use of herbs when caring for clients.
-  Benefits of various vitamins, supplements and mineral in health care.
-  Supplementation to the diet promoting faster healing for the client.
-  Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology as related to each ailment.

Holistic Nutrition 4: Diet & Nutrition – Clinical Case Studies                     

This level prepares students to work with clients. There are preparation made by each student; designing of an intake form, interview questions, and nutrition plans.  The students, along with the instructor meet clients and develop a plan based on the interview. The student will conduct a follow up with the client to present their plan with the instructor.

MIND-BODY (VISUALIZATION)

 

Mind Body Medicine (Visualization):
-  Promoting positive thought in the client.
-  Understanding the client psychological outlook.
-  Basic techniques in communication, relaxation, guided imagery and visualization.

Visualization Workshop I:

Visualization and other Mind/Body Medicine techniques are useful in helping the practitioner assist the client to change habits, relieve panic attacks, phobias and relieve stress. Each participant will be able to practice more visualization techniques.
Client volunteers will work with participants while supervised by a naturopathic doctor.

Visualization Workshop II:

The focus of this workshop is to learn how to teach your client to meditate and encourage them to make it a part of their daily routine.
